Aha! I found it! Took me a good 15 minutes and about 5 different searches but I found the post by John that really got me thinking about turning my micro sites into larger sites. It was more difficult to find because apparently John had deleted the original thread he had posted the response in but I was lucky to recover what he had said because another member had quoted him on it. I really wish John had not deleted this post because I know I had searched for this post a few weeks back and had no success in locating it. Today out of determination and a promise to Kelly that I would find it…I found it!
For some of you that do not know, John is not just “the xfactor micro niche guy”. John is very successful with his authority site that is in the health niche. You can read John’s details of how he built his niche site back in 2008 on the warrior forum thread here.
This post really helped me see the true potential of micro niche sites and how I can have them produce more than just the ideal $5 a day income. The setup of the thread was to encourage people to write more content. John had mentioned writing 6 articles a day. (I am not that motivated to do 6 a day but his generalized statistics are still encouraging).
Look at it this way everyone, let’s say that the worst
scenario is that every article you write only gets 2
clicks per week on average, with .25 cents for each click.Based on this example, that one article page will make
you $2.00 per month.Pretty crappy huh?
Yes it would be if EVERY article did that poorly, but even so
let’s now say that you write 6 of these every day.At the end of 1 month you will have written 180 articles
that will make you $2.00 each per month once they are
indexed and you have backlinks. That totals $360.
So…. with this worst case scenario every month that goes
by you are increasing your passive income by $360 so long
as you continue to work the plan and add 6 new articles to
your site every day (along with article marketing). That’s not so bad, it ain’t great, but after 10 months you
could develop a $3,600 monthly passive income stream
from working this plan.So….. Anyone who is wondering how to make money with
adsense by long-term websites………How many articles have you written today?

Yesterday’s post took me another few hours again. Someone had asked why it was taking me so long and the only real answer I can provide is that I am spending way too much time watching YouTube videos for part of my research so that I am able to write a step-by-step and I am also making sure that each post is juicy link bait, i.e. its a post that people will simply want to bookmark and come back to.
I also managed to get 3/4 of today’s (Saturday’s) post ready. I still need to write up a quick article for ezines, spin the same article for SEOLV and take a spun snippet for BB.
Had a pretty stinky adsense day yesterday of $23.04 and my authority site got 0 clicks.
Oh and by the way, there is a real douchebag website out there that will take information from your google account (like your bio information) and put it in their people search directory. They had listed my full name, what city I lived in, websites I owned job etc. I had made the mistake of listing noteworthytips in my google account and I found that my avatar from my google account showed up along with a few other niche blogs I own. I was pretty pissed off and wrote them a nasty email demanding they remove me from the system. In fact, you have to request to have your information removed, otherwise…you’re there too. I don’t want to give the site name away that does this until I see they delete my info first and that my information is deindexed.

Hi – I have had pretty stinky days the last couple of days with adsense too
but it just seems to come with the territory.
I have to say that the post is very inspirational re: getting 6 pages up per day and playing the numbers game, but I have a few issues with it. First of all, I’m suspicious of how John goes from raving about mini sites to suddenly praising authority sites. Secondly, I suspect that its not quite as simple as whacking up 6 articles per day – you still have to do keyword research etc – and what niche enables you to target 6 new keywords per day? Thats over 2000 in one year. You would have to set up a very broad niche site such as health – but then most of your pages will be buried on page 10+ for their chosen keywords meaning you get 0 visitors per day and $0 per month – a couple of articles for backlinks is not going to rank you for these keywrods.
What are your thoughts? Im interested to see how your 30 day challenge pans out – I wish you the best of luck and hope that the 30 page site gets some decent clicks – if it does work out, the sky is the limit!
p.s I dont mean to sound too negative, Im just a cynical guy and I have had a few southern comforts.
It’s a fair response Dan. I think that many people are not understanding that John’s intent of the book was to lay the foundation for getting your sites up and running and then the biggest key pointer is to see which of those sites have real potential. This thinking helps ease your mind with the whole idea of putting all your eggs in one basket. If you built 1 micro niche site and one site only; and just started busting out 6 pages a day you could be in a heap of trouble come one month later and you see the site has earned only $0.50 for the month. That’s when you would cut your losses and move onto the next site. This is why its probably best to build 2 sites a week for a month and then come back to those sites a month later or so and look where they stand. Then of those that are ranking easiest and are earning consistently you should proceed to build them out.
I think testing the water is a must for site building. Like I have said in the past, I made many mistakes in the beginning; and to this day many of those sites I first built in October are not even earning me $1 a month. But I got lucky and some sites that weren’t even 1 month old and have hardly any back links earned me $20 a month.
I don’t think John expects people to bust out 300 or 400 websites to try and hit $200 days. (I know I was guilty of this thinking). Ultimately making them authority sites is going to earn you more bang for the buck!
Let’s face it, it’s a lot easier to have a small handful of sites to update frequently with fresh content and back link then it would be to maintain 100+ sites. And I still stand by my own quote ‘if I could do this over again. I would have only done 15-30 sites.’ That is my advice to anyone thinking of building a micro niche empire. Start small…grow THEM big.
And also if you read john’s original warrior forum thread in my post above, you will see he has always been a fan of authority sites. He is not preaching to the masses that they must now turn their micro niche sites into authority sites but he is just painting a picture for what they could do.
Hey I was guilty of thinking of that too! I got too carried away at one point thinking slapping 100 plus site will get you a couple of hundred bucks a day. But after doing that for a few months, I realise that micro site would not really stick on a decent SERP for long. Most of my sites are suffering the G dance. Making them into a authority site might solve the problem. Building Micro niche site are pretty much like a beginner course, especially for inexperience starters like me. While building micro sites I had learn many things and understand a fair bit of SEO. Before embarking into this, I tried building a medium authority site trying to rank a rather competitive keywords and it took months to see my first click.

Yea, that’s a good way to sum up micro niche sites, a beginner’s course. The keyword research alone and using EMD is pure gold alone.
Thanks for this detailed comment Sara, as it really helps me. For months I was very overwhelmed thinking I’d need hundreds of sites. As you saw from my recent blog posts, I finally decided to start making more sites. Before that I only had the early sites (like you mentioned, the ones where I didn’t know much about what I’m doing). Now I’m pushing ahead with quite a few new sites but I’m going to limit it after that so I can make sure each and every one of my sites is useful and got lots of content – so what you said above makes me feel like I’m going about it the right way.

That’s great that you will limit how many sites you build. Its easy to get carried away. We all want our earnings to be faster and higher but I really feel with adsense the journey is slow but it will be worth all the effort if you just keep hammering at your sites.
Hi Sara,
Thank you for sharing the link to that old thread. John’s threads are always full of important information. I’ve bookmarked it to get back to it later on.
As far as adsense earnings, I’ve had a pretty lousy week too. My soon-to-be authority site made $0.00 for two days straight and than only $0.20 yesterday.
I see other people complaining about low adsense yearnings lately… I’ve never had so many bad days in a row. Maybe this is a world-wide phenomenon? Or just a coincidence? I’m starting to get a little worried.
By the way, I’m curious to see the traffic trends for your authority site. How’s that turing out?
Selena – Not that I earn that much in Adsense anyway, but the last three days have been TERRIBLE for me.

Well, I can say that AWstats is pretty far off from google analytics. I think analytics was counting robots traffic too because my numbers are not hitting 100+ UVs. I’ll be posting an update in a few more days so you can see the real traffic details of a week’s time. The traffic definitely dropped yesterday and the site received 0 clicks for 2 days in a row now.
Thanks for re-posting John’s thoughts – his eBook talks about the strategy to build 5-pagers and then go back and build them out if they’re good to go – it’s a shame people misunderstand his intent.
His purpose in having micro-niche sites is also genius: minimizes risk, levels the playing field, opens the door to success for many. It was also a great crash-course on all things SEO and marketing, using very budget-friendly tools and methods.
Having one site that makes 2,000-3,500/month sounds great. Until that one monolithic site gets de-indexed, hacked or simply doesn’t continue to perform. So: you have been depending on $3.5k a month, and then it only gives you $2.5….then $2….then back on up to $3.5k. That was the problem with the site John mentions in his book, and is the problem in any business where you have one avenue of monetization or one profit center.
Diversify, divide and conquer. In any event, I’m micro niche all the way. Will build real estate first and then build up later…thanks for the post, Sara.

Excellent point James. I am glad I didn’t just focus on my one beauty niche blog the fell off the planet last fall. Even though it is now #5 on page 1, it is no where nearing what it used to bring in. Even with regards to the site I am working on for this challenge, I don’t think I will actually focus on it for the next 10 months and neglect the other sites. I’m still waiting it out I guess to see what my final result is. should be most interesting to see how it does after focusing on just one site this month. But more than likely I will focus on a new micro site next month.
Someone gave me a very useful piece of advice recently on watching videos. He said that the english language is a language that relays information very slowly. He suggested I try purchasing MySpeed by Enounce to speed up the videos so I could watch them in a shorter amount of time and still be able to understand what was said. You might want to try a tool like that.
