On Tuesday I was beginning my keyword research for upcoming sites to build using my trusty Micro Niche Finder. I wanted to know my niches and keywords so I could provide a list for my oDesk writers to get started on. I didn’t think I was hitting the Get SOC links too quickly or in large quantities but apparently I was. I started getting those horrifying “0 results”. So I entered the CAPTCHA in my browser and told Google basically that I am not a virus. So I tried to use my MNF again and the same thing, 0 results. I was frustrated and went on to write articles and take care of some other things like finishing up the first site I started this week. A few hours later I came back to MNF and attempted to keyword search and was being a bit apprehensive with the SOC and the next thing I know…BAM. 0 results again! I was sooo frustrated. I felt like a whole day had been wasted.
So yesterday, I decide to read up on how to prevent getting your IP banned by Google while using the SOC results and so I am looking through keywords and only hitting the SOC button if I see the exact search count being reasonable. Even with using this action step, I wasn’t allowing enough time inbetween SOC checks so I once again got IP banned for 4 hours! Ouch! This was really hurting me from being productive.
I searched through threads on the warrior forum and even through the MNF manual to see how to avoid it and basically the best way to avoid it is to check the keywords you want to run the SOC on > Get Checked SOC > Download results in background. When you download them in teh background, MNF has a 15 second delay or something like that so it paces them out.

I was able to use Micro Niche Finder to find several niches last night without any problems. I was checking as many as 18 keywords at one time and just used the download in the background option just fine.
If you find that you are quick to click on the “Get SOC” then I highly suggest using this method to prevent an IP ban.

That’s interesting. I’ve done the same as you so I’m surprised my IP didn’t get banned. My Micro Niche finder can be a bit buggy when I download results in the background, sometimes it just doesn’t do it. That could also be some sort of Google ban, except when I do it manually it does work.

My problem was that I was so quick to hit that Get Soc link if I saw the exact phrase within a decent range.
Lol, thats soo true, I tend to do that as well when you just cant wait for the background service to finally get round the SOC number. I did that the other day and BOOM, I got banned as well…
It’s quite easy to get carried away when doing keyword research. If you have an IP address that is not static then you may be able to reboot your router. I tend to do this here in the UK, just reboot the router and hey presto, a new IP.
Great blog, good read.

That’s a great idea. Unfortunately I do not have a router. I have AT&T U-verse so there are a lot of complicated steps to take in order to get a new IP address.
If it is a problem then you could potentially look at a proxy OR just take a deep breath and wait a little longer I suppose, the latter seems more plausable…lol
Yeah, I’ve done the same thing too. Even with downloading in the background you have to be careful not to do too many. Since I am using my wireless network with cable, I will jump off and borrow my neighbor’s for a minute just to reset things LOL I’ve never had a ban last that long.

Thanks for letting me know there, better be careful…lol, thats such a nightmare, especially when you’re in full swing and you hit a stumbling block…gggggrrrrrrr
This is one of the reasons why I use Market Samurai, they use proxies so there is NO google timeout.
Shelly, have you used Micro Niche Finder? If so, how would you compare them like for like?
Thanks
Zaheer
I’m also curious about that question as well. If that is one major benefit, it might be worth the switch.
Precisely, although I’dl like to give MNF a good test run to see if it actually works as goos as people say!
What I usually do is a little keyword research every few days, regardless of whether or not I’m about to make a new website. I end up with a nice saved list of keywords for future websites, so there’s never really “downtime” if google bans me.

That is a good idea. I am going to have to implement that suggestion so I always have keywords ready and then I will have less downtime.
You can try out my keyword tool for $25, we do everything MNF does plus we have a dofollow high pagerank backlink finder for any sites that you want to analyze. We also have a proxy manager built in, so you can turn it on if your ip gets temporarily banned from google.
Hey Brandon. That looks pretty cool. Does it do the SOC too? I am so addicted to the “green light” with MNF. lol
Well i also get the soc in the background queue only my problem is with every soc it finds i need to put in a captcha.
Is this normal? How can i prevent this?
thank you
