I am posting screenshots of my earnings for the last 7 days compared to my best earning month this year which was May and then my worst performing month after my sites took a hit from the Mayday update. I post these to bring you hope because I know I am excited to see my earnings going in an upward trend.
The date ranges are all the same the 12th of the month through the 19th. Here are my May’s adsense earnings for the week.
As you can see, I was earning roughly $250 a week in adsense.
Now here is what I was earning in June for the same dates after my sites were hit with the new algorithim known as the Mayday update.
Ouch! Yup, my earnings dropped by 50%. But I was still hopeful that my sites would survive and re-rank again someday. I continued to add more content, back link them, add some LSI words to the content, change a few sites layouts and converted some HTML sites over to wordpress.
The past 3 weeks I have worked hard on focusing on article marketing only 4 sites and the past 7 days earnings have given me my smile back.
I am about $50 shy of what I was earning in May and I am confident that I will be earning the same amount I was in May, if not more; by October.
I still plan on focusing on my best performers and article marketing and back linking them to get those puppies ranking.
This weekend is a weekend that I am both excited for and dreading. I am having my final moving sale. Selling off 97% of my furniture and appliances and all of my kitchenware. I’ll then be bringing home my beloved tempur-pedic mattress and bed frame back home to my parents. Woohoo! The following weekends will consist of cleaning up the house, a little paint and new carpeting to prepare for renters.
I won’t be working today since I have some stuff to get in order in my new bedroom to prepare for my bed and we’ll be driving back up to my house in San Jose as soon as my son gets out of school. It is still such a great feeling knowing I will be earning even when not touching my sites today.
Wish me luck in selling off my things this weekend. I need the money for fixing up the house for renting.

Your stats look great, Sara! I see you are recovering from the MayDay update quite quickly. What’s so great is that you kept calm, analyzed the situation, came up with an action plan and stick to it — and now you’re seeing results. That goes to prove that, whatever happens, we should never panic. Good luck with selling your stuff — it’s a chance to put things behind you and, when you are ready to get your own place again, you’ll have the perfect excuse to buy all new stuff! =)

Yea, panicking does absolutely no good. I am notorious for freaking out at any given moment too so I am glad that I have remained so positive and upbeat about my business.
Glad to see that things are turning around for you. I agree that it was great for you to analyze your situation and make the necessary adjustments. Obviously, that is what needed to happen.

That’s great that your stats are going back up. After your 50% loss in June a lot of people would have given up and forgotten about the IM thing, but instead you made the necessary changes and kept on going. That shows a lot of courage and motivation.
Good luck on selling your items and on the move!

Yeah – and just for the record, it was your blog, Sara, that really made me re-think my business plans.
I won’t give up on using the XFactor method – but now I’m going to be going nuts with affiliate products, product reviews and making more sales.
Hopefully. =)

Great news, Sara – and here’s to hoping the sale goes well. Even though you have seen a lot of turmoil, you still manage to plow on. Definitely a lot of encouragement to see, and thanks for a hopeful screen shot!

Well the sale didn’t do as well as expected. I only made about $70 but I did get all of my furniture moved out of the house and sold or got rid of a lot of junk. Its amazing how quickly you can clear a bunch of “junk” by advertising free yard sale leftovers on Craigslist.
True – but wait, didn’t you try to sell on CL? Or, was that the first step?
We’ve more or less decorated off CL…My wife and I re-finish furniture (well…she does now, I’m typing).
$45 dining table, looked like a piece…
Two leaves, ugly, seats 15 I think –
refinished in French Country antiqued white. Good times, Craigslist.

Yes, I did list some items on Craigslist and mentioned how the items were available for viewing during the hours of the moving sale but no bites. I ended up giving a $1200 Broyhill tv armoire away for free.
(( slaps himself for missing out ))
With 8 kids…the couches look like cat scratch posts…
Broyhill? For free? OH THE IRONY

I’m sure you talked about it somewhere but what do u use for article submission. Are you doing purely article marketing to rank your sites?
-Unique Article Wizard
-Senuke
-Magic Submitter
-Ezine only
??
Right now I am just using ezines and occasionally article dashboard.
I found Idea Marketers is great – they rank really high, like an EZA, and Buzzle, too – though you only get one link with Buzzle.
It took my SEO’d article 24 hours to get to #1, I didn’t do anything to it – no RSS, nothing….well, I pinged it, but that was it.
And Idea Marketers is pretty cool – they have a mass article submission process, so if you have several to go up, you can use their syntax and get it done in one shot.
At least, I think it was Idea Marketers…
I submitted one article to Idea Marketers a few weeks ago just to test run them. I should see how its doing.
I like their bulk load capability.
I’ve been really inspired by John’s take on marketing – it’s what got me started – as well as the eye-opening boost that just a few well-placed articles will do.
Alexa ratings and article directory analysis = good results.
With SEOPressor (or just doing good SEO) and finding good kw’s, along with just a couple of EZAs or what have you…it’s not hard to take the first page of Google.

Today I am working on submitting articles to Article Base even though the links are no-follow, it seems many people on John’s forum are reporting that they notice their articles get picked up by other blogs very quickly so they can get additional links. Of course there is still the entire debate on whether or not Google ignores no-follow links. So, I’m just going to see if these submissions can help any.
Definitely second that – almost all my early backlinks were syndicated from AB. Don’t know why, but I do like the fact that you get 3 links, and I want to say you can put in-text links there, too.

I’m glad things are picking up for you again Sara. I’m having some strange things happen with my authority site – a couple of weeks back I went from being on page 1 for a number of terms to the 100s and traffic just plunged. Then within a couple of days all the rankings came back slightly higher than before. Then yesterday I’ve noticed I’ve been bumped again. All very strange and I wish Google would quit trying to dance with me!

Cowell recently posted..Simon Cowell steals Take That From Strictly Come Dancing To Star on X Factor
Well the site has been pretty solid at #15 for some weeks now but I just looked today and its at #12 so it is showing some improvement. I also have noticed that the site still has about 100+ back links to the main page that have stuck since John’s team started the backlinks back in May so its nice to see his backlinking methods insure the links to stick longer.
Thanks for the update. And are you still using Jeremy Kellsall’s backlink service? Seems like this one offers better value, no?
cowell recently posted..Geri Halliwell to spice up X Factor as guest judge
Hi Cowell,
I hate to knock down Jeremy’s service but I honestly do not think it is a better value than say using Backlinks Philippines or using Sick Profile Maker. I purchased the 2,000 profile links package from Jeremy for $25 a few months back and as of today, only about 40 links have stuck. That is a significant loss of backlinks. The rest have disappeared. I am not sure if Jeremy’s service does a double pass but I do know that Backlinks Philippines does. I can also see that out of all of the backlinks I have received from my Backlinks Philippines package (which was 400 backlinks), I can say that nearly 98% have stuck.
I also saw about a 50% decline – I have to say the air was let out of my balloon a little! After I finish all my Halloween sites, I am going back like you did to kick some of my sites in the pants and do more marketing to get them back. Wishing you continued success!

Thanks Sara! Good luck with your season sites. I’d love to hear how you do with them.
hi again @Elance lol. Jon from mike’s blog.
@Sara it looks like your earnings are growing every month now that’s a good sign. What kind of template are your adsense sites? Interesting to see affiliates cover half of your sites. I may have to add affiliate on mine eventually.
@noteworth tip What’s different about backlinks phillipines vs sick profile maker? I mean 400 backlinks could be done in a few hours. Not sure how long to get them indexed or stick. You say 100% of theb acklinks stuck after a month or after how long. And how long did it take them to get index. How did you check? And how many backlinks did you see show up in yahoo explorer?
Sick Profile Maker is a software that pretty much auto registers for accounts on forums, confirms the accounts through access of your email account and then places your link in the signature at any appointed time. You could virtually set up hundreds of profiles and back links a day. the downside is that you will most likely have to purchase scripts from other users on the member forum or you will have to create your own scripts for the various forum platforms and actually find the forums yourself. Right now I just use the free packets that come with the software and then I downloaded a bunch of free ones that members have posted on the forum but unfortunately those got spammed pretty good so only about 20% of the site lists are any good.
Backlinks Philippines is a back linking service. John’s team does the double pass method which means they register the accounts and then go back to place the links days later after your new registered member status is dropped off the main forum page. This helps prevent you from your profile being spot out right away as a spammer. John’s team also makes the bios look legit so that you look like a real interested member of the forum. John also provides some additional back links to make up for any that might get dropped off. You do not need to index your profiles with John’s service because he takes care of it all. I saw backlinks showing up within 24 hours. I also wanted to correct you, I did state that 100% of my backlinks were present with John’s service. It is about 98%.
I had him backlink several inner pages in addition to the main page and I have about 200 back links to the main page and the rest of the links were dispersed among 3 other inner pages.
I’m trying out the Link Juicer this month thanks to Michelle – and being a little short on time.
Oh – and wanted to second your take on John’s service with BLP – all my links stuck as well.
My trouble was – well, covered in my post.
JamestheJust on Elance recently posted..Quit Blaming Google For Your Sucky Website
*shakes her head* The Link Juicer blows. Its not worth it. My links disappeared less than 2 months after showing up. Read my review here. Get your money back while you can.
Darn it! Are you serious??
You are a wealth of information – that sucks, though.
I’m trying to pare it down myself – money wise it’s not great to be subscribed to 3 different monthly services in my situation – so that helps to know.
I’ll use them and quit, then, after the 30 days. I’ll be using material I have for other marketing avenues, so it won’t be too bad.
But darn…Sara. I should’ve asked you.
JamestheJust on Elance recently posted..Quit Blaming Google For Your Sucky Website
Well i just wonder what’s his method of indexing links. I have hordes of profile links i NEED to get indexed
That’s the cool thing about both SEnuke and Magic Submitter – they have a function that will allow you to insert tons of URLs and then ping them/bookmark them (I’ve only read about SENuke, but there’s a really convenient feature that Magic Submitter has for that).
Buy it for $4.95 for the next 30 days, if you like it keep it, but if not then just index the links. OR do that with SENuke, free for 7 days, and then…I dunno…sign up again on another IP….
Do it again…
And no. I didn’t say that out loud.
JamestheJust on Elance recently posted..Plan For Making Sales Online During Christmas Shopping
The other thing is that you can get 37 days of that: 30 days with MS for less than $5, SENuke for free for 7. Man that’s shady.
Sara:
I wanted to ask you about your method for finding keywords – not that I expect you to lay it out – but what tools do you use?
I’m re-inventing the wheel here. MNF ain’t cuttin’ the grass nor mustard, more like cutting the cheese to put it nicely.
It gets banned from G too quickly. Just wondering if you have a suggestion or some other solution?
I’ve looked at the “Keywords Magnet” and also a free method that seems to work uber-fine, but it’s (of course) time consuming.
JamestheJust on Elance recently posted..Plan For Making Sales Online During Christmas Shopping
I still use MNF to do my keyword research as far as discovering which keywords will be the most profitable.
My biggest pet peeve was also getting banned until I learned about how vital is to set the download results in the background. Try it and you will like MNF again. lol
I have never used Market Samurai but I have heard that people do not get IP banned using it.
Hi Noteworthy Tips,
I have been following your posts, particularly as I also use Backlinks Philipines. I’m a stay at mom of three just starting out online and none of my girlfriends have the foggiest idea what I’m talking about when it comes to IM and making an income online! I was wondering how many adsense sites you have to generate your adsense income? And do you rate Keyword Elite as a keyword research tool?
Good luck with the move back to your parents…I moved house a week ago, so I know the feeling!
Hello Kokotai.
I have just under 100 websites at the moment but not all of them are earning money. I have about 20 of them which perform the best and the rest get occasional clicks.
But please learn from my mistake and do not go domain crazy thinking this is the fastest way to earn full time. Its actually quite counterproductive because it is extremely difficult to work on so many sites to keep their rankings. In fact I am now focusing on building out my most profitable sites to become more authoritative sites.
@ kokotai Welcome. I say start with 1-5 sites. Put like 5-10 pages of good related kws that you can try and rank for. Then promote them and when you see them all rank top 10 rinse and repeat. I would use Market Samurai as a keyword research tool or just google adwords.
@James
Market Samurai. And you guys can also use sandboxie and see if you can install the prog with that if you can then it stays permanent trial mode =)
Thanks for the welcome. I have 10 sites in the top five, first page, each for a specific keyword, they have only got to those positions in the last 3 weeks and I was wondering how long it takes to see a return in your adsense account?
I usually use adwords but I have Keyword Elite and have been going through the instruction videos, but my results are very different to adwords….is that normal for a keyword tool. I have the trial version of Market Samurai and it seems very popular
What is Sandboxie and is it related to MS? I’ll go and find it now.Have a great day!
Your sites are not receiving clicks? Sites in the top 5 positions should definitely be receiving clicks unless the targeted keywords are just plain duds. But I would only consider real duds to be keyword phrases that include the word “free” in it.
Hi, thanks for the reply. I am getting clicks but under a dollar a day. I did intensive keyword research so shouldn’t be duds. I’ve been told that it can take 2 – 3 months to get a constant flow of clicks and a true reflection of traffic. In your experience would you say that’s right?
I personally would have thought that a site in the top 5 would show clicks pretty much straight away?
Bloody genius. Sara mentioned that, I have Sandboxie on my Plague Computer (PC) – not my biz laptop…not sure I’ll go that route though.
It doesn’t sit right.
Not a judgment call against you, btw.
