Ok, this post is not really meant to be a how-to or anything but yesterday I got swamped with emails saying I had a new follower just about every 5-10 minutes. Believe me, my Android was about to explode with its green flashing light and alert sound going off constantly. No joke! Yesterday I had 155 new twitter followers and I am still getting them this morning.
Check out my gmail account filled with notifications.

Now you might be asking me, Sara how did you do this?
Here’s the secret. Start following these 3 gurus:

Yesterday I had reported an email from Dan Raine on the whole LSI discussion and I mentioned that he is from the 30 Day Challenge (which by the way the new version is going to be released July 1st only it will be called “The Challenge” and its still FREE!). Well, when you sign up you are greeted with an email asking you to follow 3 gentlemen involved with the 30 Day Challenge. So I did and I quickly learned that something magical happens when you follow them. Suddenly you are swarmed with hundreds of followers that are bots, basically people using scripts. They get notified that one of these gurus has a new follower (that’s you SUCKER) and then their script automatically follows you. I am sure some are legitimate but typically I only receive 1-2 new followers a day so I know this is very unusual activity.
See this screenshot of my normal twitter follower activity via my twittercounter.com.
Yesterday’s adsense earnings was $15.56 and the really alarming part of this earning is that $11.19 was earned from my first website which is a niche blog. Prior to the mayday update, this blog was only doing $1-2 a day for the past few months and now its averaging at least $5 a day. The niche blog is a 3 keyword phrase and is about 1 1/2 years old with over 60 posts. When I built the blog, I never intended to earn money with adsense on it. My focus was to use affiliate programs but it has only ever made 1 affiliate sale, it ONLY earns form adsense. haha! Life is funny. This business is funny. if only I could just build like 10 solid sites like this. The problem is the whole hit or miss issue. Only 1 out of my 3 first niche blogs have been an adsense success. The other two blogs only do about $12 a month each but they both perform better with affiliate sales. Obviously they are still worth keeping since I built each of them in about 2 weeks and have not touched them in 1 1/2 years.
Sometimes I wonder if I should just go back to the basics and try to replicate my main niche blog that is a hit. It would be easier to do now. I could simply take my best performing xfactor sites, convert them to wordpress. Then for 2 weeks straight, write 55 posts for them and then the biggest secret is to autopilot the posts by scheduling them so that they will be spread out over the next few months. This will make the blog appear more natural as though it is being updated frequently.
Anyhow, yesterday I managed to get another review post 90% done. It just needs some images and it will need an article to back link it for ezine. I also added a post to one of my first niche blogs.
P.S. Make them stop! I just got 5 more twitter followers while writing this post!

Well, I have to agree with you, I am obsessed with wordpress. I have only just started using it, having built my first 30 sites with xsite pro. Its weird, but I find it so much easier to write posts instead of pages. even though my posts end up being pretty long. I also feel that my content in wordpress is better, as it has become far more personal and opinion based. Maybe thats the secret to creating quality content and adding value – you are not just rewriting boring factual information, you are presenting it in a unique manner – with your opinions and personality.
I was just wondering – do you ever “pin” your money posts to the top of the page in wordpress? So you can keep adding new posts to keep the site fresh, but your post above the fold always stays constant? This might be particularly good for google sniper sites, where george says you should make your money post the final post so that it stays at the top, but I think it would be better to pin your “final post” and maybe 3 other quality posts, and then queue up a load of outsourced articles to be posted to your blog every week for 50 weeks or something like that. You get the benefit of having your good posts as the first thing the visitor sees, but you also have a regularly updated site which should help your rankings.
Well I have 1 google sniper blog that does show all 3-4 posts at once. I also have a GS blog that only has that last post set as a “sticky” so it shows at all times on the main home page and then I have another GS that has about 10 posts and I think the first 5 are all shown on the homepage. All 3 sites rank on page 1 and in positions #1-3. Oh yea and a 4th GS was actually converted into an xfactor site and it still maintained its top position so I just think it has more to do with LSI for whatever is showing up on your home page.
With wordpress, I am not sure how you could enable to have only the first 3 posts display on the home page meanwhile able to still ad 50+ posts to the blog. I am sure there is probably a plug-in for it. I know the query posts plugin can let you display whatever posts you want in a widget ion the sidebar based off of category, tag or ID#’s you want but not sure if it helps with a few featured posts you would want displayed on the homepage at all times. That would be ideal though since George’s LSI recommendations for sniping is spot on!
In the dashboard go to your post, open it up, then go to the “publish” box, next to visibility click “edit” the select “stick this post to the front page” so you could stick a group of your best posts to the front page, then keep posting loads of articles that go off on to page 2, and rarely get seen, but provide the appearance of a regularly updated site with lots of content, even though you only want people to read that first money post. I think thats what I am going to do, keep pumping out posts, but keep 2 or three stuck to the first page
Great tips, Dan
I reread that interview with Maile Ohye of Google. What they seem to be hammering on is the “quality content” issue. If you have an ecommerce site that just has products and product descriptions they don’t like that. But if you flesh it out with quality interviews then they probably will like it.
They seem to view microsites as gaming the system to get to the top of page 1. So assing some good content to better performers seems to be the answer there too,
What this doesn’t explain is how some crappy sites are stillon page 1 and seem to still be breaking the “quality” rule lol.
Sara on your Amazon site are you going to add Adsense to it too? I found one of Chris Guthrie’ssites (he focuses on Amazon review sites and is evidently doing really well). I was sort of surprised to see he use some Adsense ads in addition to Amazon. I would think he’d be risking having buyers click off his money page.
Sandy
Hi Sandy,
I will just be using amazon. I have always built sites to have one only monetization method; either affiliate products or adsense. I think when you have both adsense and affiliate ads, you are robbing yourself. I mean if the content can convert the affiliate sales then you can make far more than you would have with adsense but if your content cannot convert then adsense would be the route to go since most people would just click on an inticing ad to get the heck out of the site.
Ouch! I had like 5 typos in that comment and my firefox spell check missed one altogether!
Man I wish we could edit our posts
“assing” in my last post should be “adding”
Lol
Sandy
Freudian slip. Just add a “Jack” in front of it. It makes a good point that way. That’s what I love about DisQuss WP plugin – you can edit your comments and mess with the html as well, after posting.

Sara – your idea about focusing is golden. I’m realizing I need to do more of that, definitely – it smacks of what I know about George’s Sniper program. Come to think of it, it’s one of the reasons my one big-mama 5-pager site does so well – it’s narrowly focused (pretty much).
Thanks Sara. Focusing on one method does make more sense.
James lol.
Sandy
Sara,
Is there any benefit to having twitter followers that you managed to get in this fashion? I have some followers but it seems that as some are added, some leave so that I am always at a fairly constant number. Just curious what your thoughts are. I do like the 30 Day Challenge as it is very educational especially since I just started last year (although I didn’t build a site). Maybe I will do that this year.

I don’t really use twiiter to get extra traffic to this blog but it certainly could help with getting traffic to niche blogs if you set up a separate account for each niche and used it to announce new blog posts or product sales/deals.
Right now I have a mixture of followers; 1/3 are from youtube that watch my youtube vlogs and the rest are internet marketers. I don’t try to purposely gain traffic to this blog. This blog just started off to document my IM journey but as it ages and as I have more posts, I gain more traffic and I would be a fool not to place relevant aff links on it.
Twitter sends me more traffic than Google (hear that Google??)
It took about a week to dial in my campaign set everything up so that my posts were being Tweeted, etc, but it was well worth it.

This entire mayday thing makes no sense. When taking inventory today I found a site that sorta fell off my radar screen. It has 2 pages of content. (plus the sitemap, privacy etc.) Uhm,,, page 2 was an article I just smacked up there until I could post unique content. And, it has only a handful of links, yet it is ranking #2.
OK, so it is not a very competitive keyword, but still there it is, 2 pages, only one with unique content and still #2.
My plan is, until we know what is going on to just continue building out my sites, adding pages and backlinks.
My sites have not been hit at all as far as I can tell. (Maybe it is coming?) Have NO idea why not. I have sites between 2 pages to 80. Targeted niche sites, larger more diverse sites, some with not many links at all.
It sure is a wake up call though. Do not put all eggs in the same basket. And that may not even mean adsense versus affiliate sales, it means to not depend on only organic traffic which I have been so far.
Evita
PS. just checked. The 2 page site I mentioned has 98000 competing pages….
(scratching head)
Its starting to get annoying having all these “Bot” on Twitter. The other day, I actually responded before looking to see who was messaging me, and low and behold they had sent the exact same message to about 20 people.
