This morning as I was contemplating selling off some of my sites that I don’t have time to wok on, I decided to check up on one of the sites that I was running a test on. I had completely forgotten about it. Its been almost 7 weeks since I made my post about how I speculated the Mayday Update had more to do with LSI words than anything. To refresh your memory you can check out my post here followed up by a second post about more LSI and the mayday connection here.
The very next day after writing the first post, I took action and decided to bootup my favorite LSI software, The Ultimate Keyword Theme Extractor and gathered 4 additional LSI words that the software provided me with. I then went back over to site #86 that was ranking at #9 on page 1 prior to the Mayday update and fell to #34. Since it was only 10 days after my sites took the hit due to the new Google algorithm, I was afraid to do too much but I knew I couldn’t just sit around waiting for my sites to magically rank on their own again. So I decided it would just be best for me to just go back over the site’s content and add the new LSI words that The Ultimate Keyword Theme Extractor provided to me. So that’s what I did. I basically took the four new LSI words and used them each two times within the body. I did have to fix some sentence structures to get them to read well. I did this for each page of content on the site which was 5 pages.
I wanted Google to take notice that I did something to my site so I wrote a quick 300 word article and submitted it to ezines with the back links pointing to the home page using the main keyword as my anchored text and then taking a random inner page from the site to use for the second link. That’s it. I don’t even recall pinging the site upon approval from ezines but it is possible I did.
That’s it! Just took me about 40 minutes of work, set and forget and didn’t do a single step since. It took 7 weeks for it to rank again on page 1 (it’s currently at #10). So if you are like me with too many sites to work on at once you should try this out to see if you can get your sites ranking with little effort. Even if you took just a few hours to do this on one day, you could possibly get 4-5 sites ranking on page 1 again in just 1-2 months. Not too shabby.

That’s great to know Sara – thanks for sharing and good luck improving all those sites!

Oh oops forgot to mention its ranking. lol It’s at #10. I edited the post.
OK. For the record – I want to know how Ruth knew. Telepathy? What?
Also – I’m going on record: I’ll give this a shot and come back and tell you how this ‘speriment worked. Or not.
But I’m using the Google Wonder Wheel. Cuz I’m cheap. Wish me luck – and GREAT results!!

That’s great! Oh what? Your site was at 34 and is now…is now…
I’m on the edge of my seat here, your site is where? (Ignoring the fact that Cathy beat me to it.)

Something sites that we put too much energy on take longer to get on front page of G, then sites that we do little on, it’s all about the competition and how rich your content is. I’m going to give it a shot.
That’s great! Here is something that I just did over the last week. I had a blog that was #3 for a long time and then after mayday it went to #18 and stayed there since the update.
I didn’t touch it at all. So one day I looked to see what could be the reason and #1 and #2 have been there forever….and I noticed that when you look at the keywords highlighted that they had more of the keywords in the title and in the description (used scroggle.org scraper) .
So I updated my description and threw in a couple of keywords and bam! like the next day or two it was sitting at #8. It’s not back yet, but just that little tweak made a huge difference. I’m going to go back and make sure my on page seo is awesome and all my sites.
Hey thanks for sharing that awesome info Lisa! I will try that as well.
I just noticed the site that I spoke about in this post on has the keyword used once in the description while all the other sites ranking above it use the keyword twice. Gonna change mine to have it mentioned twice and see what happens.
Random thought… don’t you just hate it when you make a thoughtful blog comment and in your backlink you use the wrong suffix, like .com instead of the .net you actually own, leaving yourself with nothing and pumping up a godaddy parked page or whatever…. LOL!

No, Ross. Never happens. =)

Lisa,
If you are reading this, can you say if you put the keyword phrase more than once in the title/descrip? I have a few that have the phrase but they sit at number 10 and aren’t budging!
Sara,
Congrats on number 10 and thanks for telling us the steps you told us that helped you to get there.
Deb
Hi Deb,
I picked up 4 LSI words and I used each of the 4 keyword phrases at least twice. I didn’t use them in my titles but I did try to put at least 1 additional LSI word in the description.
I have a question, please forgive this is not relevent to this blog post. Could sub domains work wit xfactor sites or should I only deal with root domains
