In The Beginning – Sites #1-13
When I first started off doing xfactor sites 4 weeks ago, I was trying to stick as close to Xfactor’s (John’s) advice in his ebook as far as the monthly searches you should be looking for and then additional keywords for building the other pages.
Now when I say I was trying what that really means is, I wasn’t doing it exactly. I was doing exactly as is suggested in xfactor’s book as far as back linking but it was the initial research that I was not following exactly. I was only able to find keywords that were getting a monthly search of about 1,300-1,500 and then I would just make sure my additional keywords had decent monthly searches of near the 1,000 mark. Now, before I would commit to the domain I only had a few requirements: Micro Niche Finder had to show a “green light” for the SOC and I would check the CPC for the keywords to make sure I would get decent click payouts.
Since then I have had to tighten up the reigns. After talking with Mike some more about why my sites are struggling to get onto page 1 even after 2-3 weeks of time has passed he told me something that really made me be honest with myself. He said “You need to refine your research skills. If your site isn’t landing on page 1 as soon as it is indexed, your research is the problem.” To be honest, up to this point I had 13 sites up and indexed and only 4 of them were on page 1. The rest are struggling anywhere from page 2-20+. Thankfully none of my sites have been de-indexed. So because only 4 sites are even on page 1, I am only earning about $2-3 a day total.
3 Valuable Things I Learned From My Xfactor Sites So Far and How It Can Help You
1.) Do not settle for low monthly searches. We need these sites to get traffic and lots of it, in order to earn anything more than just $.25 here or there. I now will only commit to a keyword if it is showing 3k+ monthly searches. Do not be discouraged if you are unable to find them. Just keep refining your searches with Micro Niche Finder and you will surprise yourself and hit a gold mine. They do exist and there are tons out there for the taking.
2.) Get the exact keywords in the domain. This was a hard lesson to learn. I had found 2 keywords that showed the “greenlight” in MNF and had a monthly search of 5,400. Absolute gold! Unfortunately the domain was not available for either. I figured, meh, I will do as John says in his book and I will add a word in the domain. This is garbage (sorry John) and will not help you rank for your keywords quickly enough. It’s possible to rank for it but you are going to need a crap load of back links. If you are up for the challenge, then go ahead but I have spoken with several people that have all reported the same thing, their sites that have an added word are no where near ranking for the keyword.
3.) Stop nursing your previous sites. This is perhaps the hardest lesson to actually follow through with. I was talking with Mike about this very thing a few days ago (ok I lie, I was actually WHINING to Mike). In the same conversation I had with Mike over why my other 9 sites were failing at ranking I had mentioned how once I hit 20 sites I was planning on going back and adding more content to all of them. Mike’s response was “Sure, you can do that if you are patient enough to earn money months later. Or you can forget about them for now and just continue building new sites. If you want to earn more money at a faster rate then just build more sites”. Make a commitment to stop obsessing over the rankings of your sites once they launch. if you really feel its necessary to check your rankings designate certain days to only do it, like Saturdays and stick to your plan. Otherwise you will waste valuable time in which you could have wrote new content for a new site, researched new niches or completed a round of the details you use to get a site indexed (article marketing, social bookmarking, pinging.)
Xfactor Site #14 Update
It finally got indexed after 6 days. It only has links from Hubpages and Goarticles at the moment. I followed Peter’s advice and didn’t place adsense on it until it was indexed today. It’s sitting at position #7 on page 1. We shall see how soon it starts earning and whether or not it does much google dancing. Peter has found his sites to dance less when adsense is added after it is indexed so we shall see!

Interesting! I always add my ad codes immediately. In fact, it is one of the first things I do.
While the family is on vacation (I have to work), I plan on publishing at least 10 new sites. Perhaps I will experiment with this batch and see if they rank faster/better.

Yea, I am very interested to see if they rank better as well.
Thanks for publishing these lessons! I have not had the time to work on my X Factor sites much, but I have the exact same problems as you with the research
Sometimes it seems to take hours to find something half decent! And last time, I actually came across quite a few XF sites on my way, taking up the domains that I wanted. Nearly all just had duplicate content on them – it’s crazy! Anyway, good luck now you’ve refined your processes a little.

I haven’t come across too many sites but the ones I have, seem to be rather low monthly searches so if they aren’t doing proper research, they just leave the gold mines for us.
Hi Sara,
I was getting ready to go and buy the ultimate keyword theme extractor software when I decided to google the exact phrase “ultimate keyword theme extractor” — and guess what? You rank #3 for this term!
This is so cool. You outranked the seo sites talking about this, as well as all the software pirate sites that are offering downloads on this software. Wow, there must have been some real good LSI on that post of yours that is ranking #3 for this phrase
Don’t know why this gets me so excited… it’s like that day when I discovered that Mike ranked #3 for the phrase “SENuke google slap” all because of some post I made a little bit ago worrying about xfactor sites being too thin and getting a google slap, and in that same post Mike was talking about SENuke.
Funny how you guys rank for the most interesting phrases… by accident too, I think.
That is funny. I never bother writing blog posts that use SEO on this blog so I can assure you that is a pure accident. lol
Oh and remember how I told you I was going to test out using the ultimate theme word extractor on a brand new xfactor site? Well that site just got indexed yesterday (Oct. 30, 2009) and it was no where to be found but today, 1 day later, it is in position #7 without me even giving it any back links with articles. I only social bookmarked it and pinged it. I think this is a VERY good sign that this software is a great weapon for xfactor sites.
Amazing post… Found your blog through Mike Iser’s sites, and these tips really gave me some inspiration for my own project (I’m working with Google Sniper Sites atm), as I with my first couple of sites keep checking back, and trying to figure out how to get them all ranking.. Just realised that the way to do it is more likely to create more sites instead, and keep refining the keyword search instead of focusing on SEO to rank the first sites…
So, spend the night doing some keyword research, now bought 6 new domains for 2 different niches, and looking forward to getting some more experience.. Might looking into creating Adsense Sniper sites later too, especially after reading about yours and Mike’s success with these sites…

thanks for publishing this post ..well i have a doubt since you have much experience with Xfactor sites, you can tell it batter ..as you mentioned here that find a exact keyword in domain, not to include any extra word .. would you prefer any specific TLD for domain ….let’s assume if .com ,.net and .org has been already resisted ..then would you go with .Biz or not ?
Hi Gary,
No, I would not go for a .biz or .info. If I cannot get the .com, .net or .org I just forget about that keyword and find another. I do not come across many .biz or .info sites that hold a steady ranking on page 1, especially when there are the .com, .net and .org domains competing on page 1.
There truly are so many nuggets available out there and its best to find one where the .com, .net and .org is available.
Micro Niche Finder now has a feature where with one click of a mouse it tells you whether or not the domain is available. I now do not even bother hitting the SOC button with MNF until after I hit the “check domain availability” option. Why waste time checking out competition and how much cpc it earns only to find the domain name is not available?! Micro Niche Finder saves me a ton of time and I love it!
okay ..thanks for clearing my doubt ..one more thing if you don’t mind to answer ..while looking for traffic of any particular keyword which traffic you choose Global search count or Local Search Count if i am not using exact Tool
https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
i think i should choose Local Search Count so far if i m looking for US based Traffic ..m i correct ?
Yes, if you are looking for US based traffic then pay attention to the local search. Global is just sort of the bonus traffic since it means it is traffic world wide.
Hi there. I cant find this question answered anywhere
Is it possible to be ranked for a one page xfactor site useing one main keyword – the site will have over 3k search a month and a relevant unique article (I know it sounds like a mfa site)
will google penelise me for having many one page domains?
do you have a pagerank stratagy when lookig at the top ten websites for your chosen keyword?
michael
Hi Michael,
My latest 2 posts are exactly about whether or not to do one page sites. Here is the first post where I talked about my strategy with one page sites. Then in this post I talk about why I am not going to build one page sites.
Its hard to say whether or not Google will penalize you. Its very possible but if your one page site has a lot of content that is helpful to the visitor, maybe they won’t. At the end of the day it boils down to asking yourself is it worth possibly losing your adsense account or having your sites deindexed. I decided not to take that risk.
As far as keyword strategy this is what I look for:
1.) Exact local search of at least 2,400
2.) CPC of no lower than $0.40 for the minimum checked with Spyfu
3.) I enter my keyword into google search without quotes and look at the 1st page. If I see 3 PR- or 3 PR0, then I will go for it.
4.) Buy exact match domain name only. Must be .com, .net or .org
Thx for quick response
I dont think it would be worthwhile to risk adsense account
Especially for me who is new to the IM game
You’re welcome Michael.
I think it will be better for you in the end to just build up the content on your sites. The more pages you have just means the more money you can earn since you will be attracting more traffic to those pages and you will also rank for keywords you didn’t even think of.
If you are just starting off with micro niche sites you can build them with about 5 pages of content and then add new pages here and there.
My adivce to anyone going off the xfactor model. Build your sites with rich content, 5 pages won’t cut it…I received a strong warning 2 days ago that my ads were “too aggressive” and that my sites was considered MFA. They have not banned me yet, as far as I know, but I turned off all my adsense on all of my sites and am now working to put affiliate links such as amazon and other networks. Also going back and adding tons and tons of content. This has been a pain for me. Go slow and build your sites up with real rich content….don’t settle for mediocrity….you will pay for it at some point, so do it right…u think you’re getting away with it now, but google isn’t stupid. I guarantee you we’re gonna hear many more stories besides mine shortly. My sites have not been de-indexed yet, and i hope it doesn’t either….all this hard work will be all for nothing….DO IT RIGHT….TRUST ME…don’t get on google’s radar
Hi sara,
Great post you have here, right now im following the xfactor course, i mean next week im going to begin this journey, i had several doubts about researching the correct keywords, because im going to focus only in the spanish language (im from Mexico), and i was really confused about paying attention on the local or global search count in MNF, so i wanted to thank you for the tips that you just wrote.
Other things that i have noticed is when you deal with spanish keywords they are very low paid compared with the english kw, but well im going to try my best to make my sites work and earn some money.
I just bookmarked your web, and i’ll be following you in this trip, i hope we can share some tips and great stories.
Greetings.
Srry i just forgot to ask you something, what method are you using to build backlinks for your xfactor websites? article marketing or any other method? and just a final question if you dont mind to answer, what basic/general plan a beginner of the xfactor method should follow to see effective results?
Thank you
I recommend article marketing as John outlines in the eBook but I am also a huge fan of forum profile links.
Your observation about adding a word to the domain being worthless advice is just what I was looking for. Thank you for that. I’ve been doing keyword research and found over 1,600 x-factor type sites (really!) and any that have an extra word in the domain name simply do not have decent rank. I thought maybe I just wasn’t stumbling upon the ones that did work. With all the great keywords I’ve been finding I really wanted to make sites around those, but with exact match domain not available, I’ll just move on. Sigh.
have you tested using hyphens in the domain name vs using an extra word? Which is better when the keyword isn’t available?
