I have been using Feedjit on this blog and a few of  my other “personal” blogs for a few months now. The main reason I used the widget was to see the real live traffic entering and exiting my site. It’s really all fascinating to me. Just scroll down on this site and you will see it in my sidebar.

Anyhow this morning I decided to check out my stats with Google’s webmaster tools. I was curious how certain blog posts were getting external links when I was not social bookmarking them etc.

All 18 links were from Feedjit!

So, are these really back links?

Google seems to think so. What about Yahoo?

Yep, I spotted some of the links here.

So bottom line is that if you are not using Feedjit on your blog you are missing out on free ongoing back links for next to no effort. The only effort is the one time customization of your widget. You don’t even have to register for it! Then just slap the code on your site and forget about it!

I use the javascript version. But there is also an image widget that is ideal for: Blogger, Typepad, Wordpress.com, Myspace, Live Journal and any other site that does not allow you to use javascript.

I am not sure why some posts got back links and why others have not. Maybe it only adds your feed once a week or so but still…it’s free back links!
