I started my internet marketing journey in September 2008. I started building my first niche sites towards the end of of the month that year. I am receiving the email notifications reminding me that my first niche sites are due for renewal. I knew this day was coming and I wasn’t looking forward to it.
I first tried to transfer the domain of my first niche site to Namecheap so that I could renew the domain for only $7.99 which is about $2.00 cheaper than the current registrar, plus with Namecheap you get free privacy on the domain. If I want the privacy enabled on the current registrar then I have to pay an additional $2.00. I went through the steps to transfer it and then the current registrar had the nerve to deny the request. I seriously hate them and will never do business with them again. So then I decided to look if it was worth the trouble to call and bitch at them to proceed with the transfer. The domain of that site has only earned $7.89 with adsense for an entire year! It’s not even worth the renewal fee! It only has a PR of 1. I also went ahead and entered the domain in a website that tells you what the worth of the domain is and according to that software, it’s only worth $2. 00. lol So sad that I spent hours and hours writing blog posts for it and it has rewarded me with nothing. So I am letting it expire. Oh well, that was my first experience with niche sites and obviously my keyword targeting skills were very poor.
I have about 5 more domains that need to be renewed this month and I most likely will let those go too. If a domain didn’t at least break even on earning or more, then it’s not worth it to me.
Man, I have learned so much in a year’s time. I thought for sure by now I would be earning at least $500 or more a month. I am not even close yet. I currently earn about $270.00 a month.
This is what I earned on all sites last month:
EPN – $21.72 (huge increase. Normally I earned $3-4 a month)
Amazon – $0.60
Chitika – $7.21
Google Affiliate Network – $134.04
Adsense – $106.44 (Yes! I broke my first $100 month! It was $84 the previous month.)
Shareasale – $7.26

I forget that we started at almost the exact same time. I’m at the same point and letting some domains expire. I’ll move the content to Hubpages or Info Barrel for kicks, might as well get some use out of it.
I transferred some domains from GoDaddy to NameCheap and there are a few hoops to jump through to get it to work. Did you cancel your privacy at the old place first? That was one thing I found confusing.
Still curious what you are selling on the Google affiliate network…can’t seem to get in to take a peak at their campaigns.

I have a blog that is in the beauty niche so I am using a beauty store in the google network.
Hmm, I didn’t check into the privacy issue. maybe that is it. lol
Oh great idea about transferring the old blog content over to hubs! May as well get some use out of them instead of throwing those hours of hard work away. I wonder if there is an easy way to download all the posts into a text file or something.
Doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun?
Not!
Nevertheless, your $270 a month is pretty admirable. Well done.
